Muslim Don’t Smoke

In the Harley store I sat with Mike Knight while the rest of the posse was in the other room recording for a half an hour radio show. From the other room we heard lyrics of “Punk Rock Fucking Sucks” and “Sharia Law in the USA” as all of the bands here at Sundance did a combined acoustic set. In the room there were members form the bands The Kominas, Al-Thawra and Filmstrip. As the band all left rowdily with instruments in tow and cigarettes pressed between their lips, I trailed behind making sure that nothing was left.

As I passed by the register, I heard the woman at the counter whisper to the guy next to her, “I thought Muslims didn’t smoke.”

I kicked back and threw over my shoulder as I left, “Wait till you watch the movie.”

The woman just nodded quietly, unsure of what to say.
